Protect Valencia County Water. IT’S OUR WATER!
Protect Valencia County Water. IT’S OUR WATER!
Why this petition matters
Niagara Bottling in Los Lunas wants to increase its water consumption from 285 acre feet per year up to a whopping 650 acre feet per year! That is potentially over 200 million gallons of water in a single year. Plants, like Niagara, that use reverse osmosis to purify tap water lose up to 40% of the water used to create a water bottle. That is waste Los Lunas and Valencia County cannot afford. The environmental impact of bottling water cannot be ignored and includes eco-toxicity, potential for acidification, eutrophication, ozone depletion, smog, and a range of human health complications. This is not what we want for Valencia County. IT'S OUR WATER. The residents of Valencia County need this water. Our farmers have been advised to NOT FARM this year because of LACK OF WATER.
