Santolina is a massive sprawl housing development that would cover more than 13,700 acres of undeveloped land on the Southwest Mesa of Bernalillo County.
It is projected to have over 37,000+ residences with ~95,000 people, (comparable to size of Rio Rancho). At build-out, it is estimated that Santolina would demand over 14 million gallons of water per day.

• Water is a major concern especially in a region that continues to experience long- term drought coupled with climate change. Will there be enough water to continue traditional farming and sustain acequia communities?
  
• Santolina lacks the appropriate zone; the land is still zoned Agricultural, a ruling that has been upheld by the Court of Appeals and NM Supreme Court
• Increased tax burden (e.g. over $654 million dollars needed for schools alone)
• Increased traffic on the West Side
  
• Increased dust pollution from unstable sand dunes would blow onto farms and homes located in the valley
• This type of sprawl development is not aligned to new more sustainable housing trends

Community members are urged to show up and voice their concerns to the County Planning Commission, and should also voice their concerns to their County Commissioners, but not try to get commitments from their Commissioners.
