Youth Voices in Action is calling all teachers who may be interested in patterning with VIA this school year. Please join for an informational meeting to learn more.

Youth Voices in Action was created in 2015 to create student-led trainings and campaigns focused on social justice that will help eliminate inequities in the education system an incorporate Student Voices in decision making at APS.
Our campaigns are made by youth for youth.

Project Feed the Hood
PFTH Garden Updates

Project Feed The Hood opened up its Johnson-Su Bioreactors this past week, an aerobic compost method. Because it’s aerobic the Johnson-Su bioreactor never needs turning, doesn’t smell, and doesn’t attract flies. The difference between this method of compost and other methods of composting is the final product - most other methods of compost result in a mulch kind of finish where Johnson-Su comes out more clay like and can clump together.

 

Mateo goes to Kirkland on a weekly basis for Genius Hour, which is an added hour to the end of school for curriculum. This program was recently implemented into the APS school program to support students in need for supplemental enrichment so that can get to gin more experiential learning in alternative ways.

Thank you to volunteers Stephanie and Zill for canning tomatoes and making salsa before putting it into these amazing custom made Project Feed the Hood jars!

Winter planting and cover crop is completed thanks to our volunteers! We are still in full swing at the garden for now and always welcome anyone wanting to come check it out. Contact Mateo@swop.net or Rebecca@swop.net for more info!

Bianca Sanchez is a Chicana poet from Albuquerque New Mexico. She's been a spoken word artist since 2009 and was a part of the Albuquerque Slam Team in 2018.

-Canvas is located on the 3rd floor of 1 Central Ave.
-You can pay to park in the parking structure of the building or around the downtown area.
-If you are coming from the 1st floor, you can take the elevator located inside, near the front of the building. You have to go through a door to get inside the elevator room.
- There is also a stair well near the parking structure.
- the easiest thing to do is park on the 3rd floor of the parking structure and walk inside.

Mutual Aid: Donate to Help LPI with Building Repairs

La Plazita is seeking help with covering expenses for an unforeseen accident where someone crashed into their building this week. See photos below.

"This [week] someone crashed into our blue building. No one from LPI was hurt. Thank you creator. All who have come to LPI know this is a powerful community gathering/organizing space. We are saddened to see our casita herida. Furniture was destroyed and bricks flew across the building. Donations and support is appreciated. Please stay tuned to see how this impacts our programming in the coming weeks."

Mutual Aid: Call for Peonies

Las Acequias are recruiting members of the Peones de San Isidro*, a mutual aid group to help acequias in need of workers!

"Many acequias have flooded during the past monsoon season from burn scar flooding and flash flooding. The effort needed to sacar las acequias (dig out) is at its greatest level since our ancestors first built/dug the acequias many generations ago. If you are ready to work, let me know! We are starting work in October. We will start with some pilot projects with some small crews and then hopefully the project will grow. Ojala que el esfuerzo vaya creciendo! Fill out the form if you're interested. If you have any thoughts, ideas, or questions, feel free to email me. For now, this is by invitation only while we get through some initial pilot projects. If you have names to add to our list, let me know, please. Thank you for your understanding."

Medicine Drum Circle happens every Saturday at 1:30-3pm by the Rio Grande at the Tingley Beach Duck pond! 

Look for the clear trail that leads to the river to meet at the wooden deck where they will be gathering in prayer and healing.

NM Substance Abuse and Addiction Resources

A group of medical professionals at Help.org held conversations with addiction experts across the US and found that the vast majority of people who need treatment for substance abuse disorders do not seek it. Though there are many barriers that discourage people from getting the help they need, cost is a significant factor. So we created a guide that provides comprehensive information on topics like, available care options, financial support, and free resources that are available in New Mexico.

This guide was created to help the many residents of New Mexico who are struggling with substance abuse and addiction to find affordable treatment that will put them on the path to recovery. It is also intended to inform the general public about the dangers of substance abuse in New Mexico.
