Our Summer Youth Program Has Ended!

This summer was full of excitement, educational workshops, team-building and engagement activities that over 35 youth were able to partake in. They were even able to take trips to Tinkertown, the local community pool, and rafting in Taos! Thank you to everyone who made this summer a memorable experience for all of us!

AJ4Y and NM Youth Justice Coalition Rally at Special Legislative Session
SWOP members, directly impacted young people, families and allies from Albuquerque Justice for Youth Community Collaborative AJ4Y went to the special session to talk to law makers about juvenile justice issues. We also mobilized in response to Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman, who presented his vision for harsher sentences and more incarceration for youth to the Crime, Courts and Justice interim committee.

AJ4Y hosted a rally and press conference where we shared our vision for a future free from youth incarceration, where New Mexico's greatest resource (it's young people) are invested in and access to opportunities, jobs and education are prioritized over punitive half measures that will only further criminalize and stigmatize young people of color. New Mexico finds itself again at the bottom of the rankings for childhood well being, we continue to be the worst place to raise a child. Our communities are stuck in a never ending doom loop of bad outcomes for kids that we can't arrest our way out of.

We will continue to push elected officials and decision makers to listen to the voices of young people and their allies. We have to end the doom loop and we have to invest in our youth. We demand education not incarceration, chances not chains!

NM Substance Abuse and Addiction Resources

A group of medical professionals at Help.org held conversations with addiction experts across the US and found that the vast majority of people who need treatment for substance abuse disorders do not seek it. Though there are many barriers that discourage people from getting the help they need, cost is a significant factor. So we created a guide that provides comprehensive information on topics like, available care options, financial support, and free resources that are available in New Mexico.

This guide was created to help the many residents of New Mexico who are struggling with substance abuse and addiction to find affordable treatment that will put them on the path to recovery. It is also intended to inform the general public about the dangers of substance abuse in New Mexico.
