CITIZENS FOR NON-PARTISAN CIVIC ENGAGEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Arturo Uribe DATE: September 11, 2020 PHONE: 575-621-0268 ***Media Advisory for IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Citizens for Non-Partisan Civic Engagement, partnering with the Las Cruces Channel, will host a series of candidate forums leading up to the Nov. 3 general election. The 2020 New Mexico Election Candidates Forum will give voters a preview of the candidates who'll appear on the ballot in Dona Ana County. It will be live-streamed on the Las Cruces Channel social media network, including on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. Starting Sept. 16, the shows will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday through the end of October. Due to the pandemic, it has been a challenge for voters to meet with and engage with candidates to ask questions and decide for whom to vote. In partnership with the Las Cruces Channel social media network, we will bring candidates together with our local moderators/commentators to ask questions and to discuss the issues and concerns of each of the districts. This will be an open discussion, with candidates keeping responses within a 1 1/2-minute limit. Unlike a conventional debate, the candidates will be permitted to respond, back to claims made by opposing candidates. The questions to be presented are not known by the candidates. Making use of Facebook Live will allow viewers and voters to stream the broadcast so that they can, in real time, ask a question that may be posed to the candidates. Not all questions that are asked on Facebook Live will be asked to the candidates. Candidates will have the chance later to go back and see what questions were asked and possibly answer them on their own social media platforms. The shows will be archived on our YouTube channel, Citizens for Non-Partisan Civic Engagement, allowing voters to go back and view the candidate forum later. We look to engage with the candidates -- and allow our commentators to share their knowledge and experience about the districts with our moderator -- before and after each question-and-answer session. The moderator and commentators will respect the state's orders on social distancing and will be wearing masks, as well as using sanitizing stations at the tables and studio.
