Farewell Mateo!

We would like to recognize the transition of our Food Justice Organizer, Mateo Carrasco.

Mateo has been a cornerstone of our Project Feed the Hood food justice campaign since 2017. He began his journey as a youth intern in SWOP's summer program and has since played a pivotal role in numerous food justice initiatives across Albuquerque. His remarkable contributions include forging a collaboration with local organizations, developing garden education programs with schools, and helping establish the Whittier Elementary School Food Hub in the International District. Mateo was also honored as the 2023 SWOP Green Chile Stew Cookoff Champion!

Thanks to Mateo’s dedication and the efforts of our volunteers and staff, thousands of pounds of fresh, organic produce have nourished families throughout Albuquerque. Mateo deeply appreciates the friendships, mentors, and peers who have helped Project Feed the Hood flourish.

Mateo has recently moved on from his professional career at SWOP to become the Executive Director of MoGro. We are immensely grateful for all his contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavors! To get in touch with Mateo, you can email him at mateo@mogro.net.

NM Substance Abuse and Addiction Resources

A group of medical professionals at Help.org held conversations with addiction experts across the US and found that the vast majority of people who need treatment for substance abuse disorders do not seek it. Though there are many barriers that discourage people from getting the help they need, cost is a significant factor. So we created a guide that provides comprehensive information on topics like, available care options, financial support, and free resources that are available in New Mexico.

This guide was created to help the many residents of New Mexico who are struggling with substance abuse and addiction to find affordable treatment that will put them on the path to recovery. It is also intended to inform the general public about the dangers of substance abuse in New Mexico.
